It is with great pleasure that I, along with the Officers and Board of Directors, welcome you to the Chicago Area Association of Neonatal Nurses. CAANN was established in 1990 and has proudly been serving neonatal nurses in the Chicagoland area as the local chapter of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN), thus all members of CAANN MUST be members of NANN. NANN, as you probably already know, is THE expert voice in advancing neonatal nursing care by influencing standards of practice through advocacy, collaboration, and leadership. CAANN is committed to providing an educational format for our members, as well as service to the communities that we serve.

The many benefits of being a CAANN member including:
  • Continuing education credits (CEUs) for our evening (usually three per year) conferences
  • Discounted registration to our evening conferences;
  • A forum for networking among other Chicago area neonatal nurses;
  • Access to both the general and members only content on our website,

In order to join CAANN, please visit the NANN website, NANN now collects the dues for all of the local chapters and provides the local chapters with the names and addresses of these members, usually 30 days after you join.

We encourage our members to provide us with educational topics they would like to see presented so that we can plan our educational events around the needs of our members. While we can’t cover every topic that is requested, we do strive to address a variety of topics in neonatal nursing.

CAANN was organized to promote the highest standards of neonatal nursing practice. Our members set the very foundation by which this goal can be reached. We encourage you to become actively involved in our organization. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact any of the Officers or Board members.

Again, welcome and I look forward to meeting you soon at an educational meeting,

Deanna Speicher, RNC-NIC, BSN
Membership Chairperson/CAANN Treasurer
